DIY Yogurt Recipes to Improve Your Natural Hair Health
Yogurt. It is rich in vitamins, calcium and antioxidants; not to mention that it’s great for your overall health. It also makes a wonderful hair potion. Just check the labels of one of your favorite natural hair care products.
Here’s how this protein-rich creamy concoction can revitalize your natural locks:
- Yogurt boosts hair growth via the lactic acid and zinc properties found in yogurt which stimulates blood circulation – beneficial for hair growth.
- Yogurt is a super rich moisturizing agent.
- Applying yogurt to your hair helps to control frizz and reduce tangles and knots.
- The protein in this health food also strengthens hair.
Yogurt can be mixed with other hair moisturizing ingredients like eggs, coconut or olive oil, strawberries or mayonnaise to create a power packed homemade hair conditioner that will infuse moisture and protein into your natural hair.

From: Give Your Hair Some Yoghurt
1. Yoghurt Hair Mask
Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup plain yoghurt
- 2tbsp olive oil
Directions:
1. Whisk egg until frothy.
2. Blend with 1/2 cup of yoghurt.
3. Apply to damp hair in sections; leave on for at least 15 minutes.
4. Shampoo and condition as usual.
2. Yoghurt Hair Treatment
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of plain yoghurt
- 1tsp apple-cider vinegar
- 1tsp of honey
Note: Try not to add more than 1tsp of apple-cider vinegar as the combination of ingredients may cause a burning sensation on your scalp. Do a scalp sensitivity test first.
Directions:
1. Mix the yoghurt, apple-cider vinegar and honey in a bowl
2. Apply the mixture to scalp, working from roots to ends.
3. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
4. Shampoo and condition as usual.
3. Yoghurt Conditioner
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup plain yoghurt
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- Egg white from one egg
Directions:
1. Whip all ingredients together in a bowl.
2. Apply to hair, focusing on the ends. Ensure you coat as much of it as possible.
3. Leave on the hair for 15 to 30 mins.
4. Rinse out mixture and shampoo and condition as usual.
N.B: For treatments that use eggs, it is important to note that the ingredients must be rinsed out with cold water.
